Ranch Property Brief

Mesa de las Viejas offers an incredible opportunity to own a rare forest inholding. These types of properties are hard to find and rarely come on the market. Surrounded by Carson National forest sitting above the Rio Chama bordering the Chama River Canyon Wilderness the ranch offers seclusion and excellent hunting. If the fall, sit on the deck and enjoy expansive views of the Rio Chama Canyon and Huckbay Canyon while listening to the sound of elk bugles echoing across the landscape while eagles soar overhead. Ranches for sale in the Cebolla, New Mexico area including hunting ranches and horse ranches

Mesa de las Viejas is named after true events. A group of settlers were bound west in a wagon train to find land to settle. A blizzard hit and the wagons were stuck in deep snow. It was decided the men would strike out to find food and a possible route out but never came back. The women survived the ordeal and the area was forever known as Mesa d las Viejas which translates to table of old women.

The area is also known as a hideout of the Hart Brothers who were notorious outlaws who robbed a train in the Durango Colorado area and made their escape to their hideout along the Rio Chama. A posse pursued the outlaws and killed the outlaws but the gold was never found. To this day the trail down to the Rio Chama is called the Hart Trail.
