Gunnison, Colorado and Gunnison County Ranches and Land For Sale

Gunnison county is almost like its own little secluded community. It lies in a big valley completely surrounded by mountain ranges. The valley is a mixture of open meadows, irrigated fields, sagebrush hills, and high timber cut by numerous streams and rivers. There has long been a strong ranching and farming culture in the Gunnison valley and today you will still see cattle ranches and hay farms.

The valley is home to Gunnison which is the biggest town in the valley and county seat. In Addition, Crested Butte Mountain Resort in the nearby town of Crested Butte also calls Gunnison County home. The county is a popular recreation area offering everything from snow skiing and snow showing to mountain biking and fishing. It is also a popular offroading area with some amazing trails such as the Devil's Punch Bowl that takes you to a very popular photographer hot spot, Crystal Mill.

The Gunnison Valley and Gunnison receive around 50 inches of snowfall each year and the higher elevations can receive as much as 400 inches each year making for great winter sports. Gunnison and the Gunnison Valley is one of the coldest places in Colorado as the valley traps sinking cold air. The summers in the valley are phenomenal with all the wildflowers and photographers love to make a trip to the higher elevations to photograph seas of mountain lupine.
